Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda.
  3. Set aside the dry ingredients.
  4. In a large bowl, beat together the butter, sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (~4 minutes).
  5. Add vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  6. Add the egg and egg yolk and mix until combined.
  7. Gradually add the dry ingredients (sans chocolate chips) to the wet ingredients, mixing until well blended and smooth.
  8. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  9. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto greased or lined baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  10. Bake for about 12 minutes, or until the edges are browned and the centers are still pale.
    • Switch the baking sheets halfway through for even baking.
  11. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
